Yves Borgwardt was born in Frankfurt (Oder), a city of the former East Germany.
His family relocated to Bavaria in 1990, right after the fall of the Berlin Wall. After his professional apprenticeship (analog - including printing and developing) in Nuremberg he moved to Berlin.
Between 2005 and 2008 he worked as a longterm assistant to several internationally working photographers receiving strong training and influence from his teachers.
In 2008 he began shooting assignments for magazines and commerical clients.
Amongst others, his work has been published in Harper´s Bazaar germany, Highsnobiety, Interview Germany, men´s health Best Fashion, stern, Süddeutsche Magazin, Vogue & Zeit Magazin.
Commercial clients are adidas, bayer healthcare, Condé Nast Corporate, Fritz Hansen, Mercedes Benz, mytheresa.com, Nokia, ORF, Sal. Oppenheim, Silhouette Eyewear, sony music, universal music, Wilkinson.
Over the last few years Yves Borgwardt has shot personalities - such as Audrey Tautou, Beth Ditto, Billy Idol, Bob Odenkirk, Daniel Brühl, Daisy Ridley, Grandmaster Flash, Herbert Grönemeyer, Paul Weller & Richard Linklater - to name just a few.
"Borgwardt’s photographs are thought through a cineastic point of view. Inspired by characters and atmospheres he creates a speculative narration along alignment lines, peeling off the layers until the encounter finds its sharp form. Therefore the pictures are less enclosed entities rather then points of intersections which initiate imaginations of the scenes in-between – a vulnerable truth." (Philipp Simon)
